The Complete History of the Palestinian State: From 1988 to Today, in One Minute
Many people talk about „the ancient history of Palestine.” We looked it up. Here is the whole thing, from beginning to end. Reading time: one minute, and we did not shorten it.
November 15, 1988
In a conference hall in Algiers, Yasser Arafat proclaims the State of Palestine. It has no territory. No borders. No government. No capital.
1994
The Palestinian Authority is established. It was not won in a war: it was handed over by Israel in the Oslo Accords, along with territory, weapons and money.
2000
Israel offers a state at Camp David. Arafat says no, and the intifada follows: suicide bombers on buses and in cafés, more than a thousand Israelis murdered.
2005
Mahmoud Abbas is elected president for a four-year term. No presidential election has been held since. The four years are still running.
2007
Hamas seizes Gaza by force and throws Fatah men off rooftops. Since then there have been two „Palestines,” and they hate each other too.
Today
A shadow state in Ramallah, with no elections, and a terrorist organization in Gaza. If that can be called a state at all.
That’s it. 38 years. The end.
Can you „occupy” a country that never existed?
Am Yisrael Chai!
